Offshore Terengganu, 5 June 2025 - MTC’s Transportation & Installation (T&I) teams achieved a key milestone in Phase 1 of the demobilization and mobilization campaign for the MOPU Petra Orion at the Banang Field, successfully and safely completing the jacking-down and tow-away of the MOPU from the Wellhead Support Structures (WSS). Notably, this project was executed entirely by a 100% Malaysian team for the first time.
The jacking team was mobilized on 7 April 2025 to carry out rectification work on the MOPU's jacking system. The scope included inspection, troubleshooting, and necessary repairs to restore full operational capability. All rectification activities were completed by 23 May 2025, and the jacking system was confirmed to be fully functional and ready for demobilization.
The Project Management team was led by Mr. A'spuri Mat Zain, overseeing the successful coordination and execution of the overall campaign and the Offshore Transportation & Installation team, led by Senior Project Engineer Mr. Rafidzi and Rig Mover Captain Adnan Ramli, was mobilized to the offshore site on 22 May 2025 via the vessel Logindo Energy.
All vessels — Logindo Energy (main tow tug), Transko Moloko (escort tug), and SK Capella — were fully mobilized at the Banang Field on 25 May 2025. The jacking-down operation commenced on 25 May 2025 and continued over the following days, as work was restricted to daylight hours due to operational limitations.
On 26 May 2025, the towing gear was connected to Logindo Energy, while Transko Moloko and SK Capella were on standby at the stern of the MOPU for station-keeping. Under the guidance of the Rig Mover, the MOPU Petra Orion was safely towed away from the WSS.
Various challenges were successfully resolved by the team, thanks to the strong support received from the main client, Petra Energy Development Sdn. Bhd.
Credit goes to all parties involved — from the engineering team led by Mr. Fareez, to the jacking team led by Mr. Peter Jokkim, with valuable support from Mr. Zahlan and his team. We look forward to Phase 2 of the MOPU mobilization and its return to Banang, tentatively scheduled for October 2025.
