MTC T&I Teams Deliver Flawless Initial Part of Phase 1 of MOPU Banang Decommissioning, Completing Flowline Retrieval Ahead of Schedule

Kemaman, Terengganu – MTC’s Transportation & Installation (T&I) teams have marked a significant milestone in the MOPU Banang decommissioning campaign, safely completing the initial part of Phase 1 flowline retrieval operations in less than 24 hours from the two days allocated schedule. The achievement highlights the company’s commitment to strategic execution, stakeholder collaboration, and unwavering safety standards.

The project began with a comprehensive pre-mobilization briefing at Kemaman Supply Base (KSB), followed by meticulous onboard preparations aboard the Hai Duong 101 vessel, where crews rigged up a specialized flowline spooler system. After a 12-hour voyage to the Banang field with 27 crew members, the team executed the critical disconnection and retrieval of flowlines from both the MOPU Banang platform and FPSO Duta Pacific. Operations concluded with the immediate return of all personnel and equipment to KSB, underscoring the project’s efficiency.

The teams overcame multiple hurdles, including resolving dynamic positioning (DP) assurance findings through close coordination with technical experts, addressing vessel standby delays caused by documentation (DSL) issues, and securing rapid approval for sea fastening safety certifications under stringent time constraints. These efforts ensured compliance and minimized operational downtime.

The operation’s success was anchored by completing all scopes faster than planned, a feat attributed to rigorous equipment testing that prevented breakdowns and ensured seamless functionality. Equally notable was the project’s flawless health, safety, and environment (HSE) record, with zero incidents reported. Onshore teams provided critical real-time support, enabling agile decision-making and reinforcing the importance of cross-functional teamwork.

This milestone reflects the dedication of all individuals involved, from offshore crews to onshore planners. By prioritizing communication, safety, and precision, the team has established a strong foundation for the upcoming phases of the Banang campaign.

With this part of Phase 1 now complete, MTC shifts focus to subsequent stages of the decommissioning project, leveraging lessons learned and the collaborative ethos that defined this initial success.
