Cyberjaya, Selangor - Following its successful involvement with the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) KD Laksamana Muhammad Amin and KD Baung refit programs, MTC Engineering Consultancy Sdn Bhd (MTC) has been awarded the design contract from Weldan Marine Services Sdn Bhd for the RMN’s fast attack craft KD Ganas. This latest contract further cements MTC’s role as a trusted engineering partner in Malaysia’s naval modernization efforts.
KD Ganas, a 47-meter fast attack craft commissioned in 1973 and originally constructed in France, will undergo modernization inspired by the successful approach developed by MTC for KD Baung, despite differences in their original build and mission profiles.
MTC will deliver a complete engineering package for KD Ganas, covering everything from basic design drawings to detailed construction and outfitting plans. This ensures a seamless, fully integrated modernization process led by MTC’s experienced engineering team.
By applying this proven modernization concept, MTC aims to optimize consistency, reduce risk, and leverage valuable lessons learned from the KD Baung program. This strategy is expected to streamline schedules while improving crew accommodation, mission readiness, and vessel sustainability for the Royal Malaysian Navy.
KD Ganas holds a significant place in Malaysia’s naval history as one of the early fast attack craft inducted into the RMN. Its modernization by MTC represents another important milestone in extending the operational life of Malaysia’s naval assets while preserving the nation’s maritime heritage.
Through its continued involvement in these high-profile naval programs, MTC is reinforcing its commitment to delivering practical, modern, and cost-effective solutions for the Royal Malaysian Navy. As the design phase progresses, MTC will work closely with the fabricator and RMN to ensure seamless implementation and on-time delivery, strengthening Malaysia’s standing as a regional maritime power.
