KUALA LUMPUR: MTC Group, through its green energy subsidiary MTC Orec Sdn Bhd (MTCO), has reinforced its commitment to sustainable energy innovation following the formalisation of MTCO’s strategic partnership with Evonik Industries AG, a global leader in specialty chemicals.
As a subsidiary of MTC Engineering Consultancy Sdn Bhd, MTCO has been spearheading MTC Group’s renewable energy initiatives since 2021, with a strong focus on biogas and biomethane solutions derived from Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) and municipal waste-to-energy projects across Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region.
The newly formalised agreement marks a significant milestone in MTCO’s long-standing collaboration with Evonik, which began in 2015 and has since evolved into a robust technical alliance. This partnership has successfully contributed to the development of seven biomethane plants, showcasing scalable and commercially viable renewable gas solutions.
By leveraging Evonik’s SEPURAN® Green membrane technology, MTCO continues to enhance its engineering and project delivery capabilities, positioning itself as a leading regional playerin the biomethane sector while ensuring global technologies are effectively localised for Southeast Asian operating conditions.
Dr. Zahari Mohamad, CEO of MTCO, emphasised that this strategic collaboration aligns with MTC Group’s broader vision of driving sustainable energy transformation.
“Through MTCO, MTC Group is not only advancing biomethane infrastructure but also establishing a comprehensive green energy ecosystem that supports Malaysia’s ambitions as a regional bioenergy hub. This partnership also serves as a strategic stepping stone as we expand into new sustainable energy frontiers, including micro-LNG capabilities.”
Looking ahead, MTCO intends to diversify beyond biomethane into micro-LNG solutions, further strengthening MTC Group’s capabilities in clean fuel technologies. This strategic direction supports future opportunities in sustainable marine fuel, sustainable aviation fuel, and decentralized LNG solutions, broadening MTC’s role in the evolving low-carbon energy market.
With expansion plans targeting Indonesia and wider Southeast Asia, MTCO’s growth underscores MTC Group’s commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable, and commercially competitive energy solutions for the region.
