Full Commissioning and First Gas of MTC Orec’s Biomethane Upgrading Plant.

MTC Orec celebrated a moment of achievement as its client, Johor Plantations Bhd (JPB), initiated commercial operations at its inaugural biomethane plant in Sedenak, Johor. According to a statement released by the JPB, the plant, connected to Gas Malaysia Bhd's natural gas distribution network, signifies a significant milestone in their pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.

Through a gas purchase agreement, Gas Malaysia's subsidiary, Gas Malaysia Virtual Pipeline Sdn Bhd, will procure biomethane from Johor Plantations' subsidiary, Kulim Green Energy Venture Sdn Bhd (a joint venture comprises of 45% MTC Orec that is also the EPC contractor of the Biomethane Upgrading Plant), under a 15-year contract. The project, with an estimated worth of approximately RM25 million, aims to supply a minimum annual volume of 250,000 MMBtu of biomethane gas to Gas Malaysia Virtual Pipeline. This initiative also contributes to the circular economy and fosters sustainable energy practices.
