30th December 2019, Farhan Fauzi.

MTC had achieved a major contract milestone on FPSO MTC Ledang refurbishment, sail-away and safe arrival at Jitang Field, a field part of Vestigo Petroleum’s Irong cluster in Terengganu. This is the second time MTC has demonstrated its transportation and installation experience performing the task during the difficult monsoon conditions, a timely accomplishment. With the campaign slogan ‘Safely Riding the Monsoon II’, MTC’s in-house T&I team got the tow assisted by Bridge Water 130 and escorted by MP Prospect vessels.

The last of its T&I campaign activities at Jitang field has been successfully completed on 27th December. Its OCV Pride has demobbed from offshore and proceeded to Kemaman for demobilization activities. The FPSO has now proceeded for its start-up operations.

The MTC Ledang sail-away ceremony was conducted on 19th November and towed out of the quay a week later, on 26th November, after getting all necessary clearances. The ceremony was attended by the Ledang project team, field operator Vestigo Petroleum, O&M provider EPOMS as well as the Malaysian Development Bank. The FPSO took 4 months of RLEC work at MMHE (Malaysia Marine Heavy Engineering) shipyard in Johor which included the installation of additional modules onboard: a new BWS (bulk water separation), submersible pumps, power supply for WHP and FPLG (flow process linear generator).

Currently, MTC is one of the three contenders for Petronas Carigali’s Limbayong oil and gas field development in Sabah.

22th November 2019, Lukman Hakim.

MTC Engineering Sdn Bhd (MTCE) has been awarded with the Marine Import Facilities 2 (MIF2) Package 4, PLEM Fabrication and Subsea Marine Equipment Installation for Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Berhad on the 7th of November 2019. The project is for PLEM Fabrication, Installation of PLEM & SPM Buoy and Subsea Marine Equipment including Subsea Hose, Umbilical, and Tie-in to the existing 20” and 10” (ex Cabot) in Port Dickson Refinery which is located about 90km from Kuala Lumpur in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. The new marine facilities are for Petron’s new clean product, MOGAS.

The project completed one of its milestones with arrival of the Single Point Mooring (SPM) Buoy in Malaysian waters on the 15th of November 2019. The SPM Bouy was transported from China by BBC Austria, a Heavy Lift Vessel and currently is now located at a temporary storage area. The project Kick Off Meeting was held on 18th November 2019. Installation campaign is scheduled in early Quarter year 2020. As part of MTCE long time commitment in promoting Malaysian capabilities and maximizing local entities involvement in oil and gas industry, the Pipeline End Manifold (PLEM) will be fabricated by a local fabricator in Port Klang. The fabrication is planned to commence in Quarter 4 of year 2019.

MTC Engineering Sdn Bhd (MTCE), a Malaysia company specialising in FPSO leasing, field production operation, and turnkey development for mature and marginal fields, is a strong advocate for utilisation of locally developed new technologies. Since 2013, MTCE has been utilising locally developed technologies onboard of its fleets of floaters.

Staying true to this commitment, MTCE together with its technology partner Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) is moving on to a new milestone in development of the Free-Piston Linear Generator (FPLG) for offshore application. The FPLG prototype shall be tested onboard of the FPSO MTC Ledang utilising hydrocarbon gas from Jitang field located offshore Terengganu as its feed gas in Q2 of year 2020.

Main features of the FPLG is as follows:
  • Production of electric power by harvesting high pressure hydrocarbon gas which otherwise would be flared thus promoting reduction in greenhouse gas emission which is in-line with Paris Agreement 2016. Furthermore, the electrical energy generated will be contributed back to the grid hence reducing overall operating cost (waste to wealth)
  • Free motion piston (Free-Piston) which creates flexibility that allows it to work with wide range of pressure and gas composition (flexi-fuel) such as high-CO2 natural gas
  • The reciprocating motion caused by gas expansion / combustion cuts the magnetic flux thus generating electrical energy
  • Consist of only one moving part resulting to high mechanical efficiency and power to weight ratio
  • Modular concept allows scalable power generation output
The FPLG is envisaged to be a compact power generation unit suitable for offshore application with special attention given to application on unmanned facilities.

MTC Group (MTC), a homegrown company specialising in FPSO leasing, field production operation, and turnkey development for mature and marginal fields, presented a paper on its experiences in the industry at the “6th FPSO, FLNG & FSRU GLOBAL SUMMIT 2019”. The event which was held in Shanghai was attended by major industry drivers from both local Chinese and international players. MTC was represented by Mohd Roslan Daut, General Manager (Development).

Under the topic of “Delivering Economical Multi-deployment FPSO Conversion Project On-Time and Within Budget”, the delegates were enticed with MTC’s time tested formula of success in making marginal fields development economical. The delegates too were asked not to just look at the potential of an individual marginal fields within one’s own awarded block but are persuaded to explore the idea of trans border development strategy. Where block owners are asked to developed marginal fields within their awarded block as a collective with other block owners using the multi deployment FPSO strategy. This is the strategy that MTC has been promoting and is employing for the development of marginal fields in Malaysia.

The conference in general highlighted the potential of China as a one stop centre for EPCIC of the FPSO, FLNG and FSRU market. Major Chinese local players such as BOMESC, Hudong-ZhongHua Shipbuilding Group too were featured during the event.

MTC Engineering Sdn Bhd (MTCE) announced the arrival of Bulk Water Separation (BWS) module to MMHE Shipyard for installation onboard of the FPSO MTC Ledang on the 20th of September 2019. The BWS module is fabricated in Batam, Indonesia by Influit Production Solutions.

The new module is designed to complement the existing crude stabilisation system to handle produced water production of 14,008 BWPD. Currently, works on integrating the module to the existing system onboard of the FPSO is still ongoing.

The installation is part of conversion works on FPSO MTC Ledang for deployment to Jitang Field located approximately 154 km offshore Kemaman Supply Base (KSB), Terengganu. Jitang Field is a part of Irong Cluster PSC development operated by Vestigo Petroleum Sdn Bhd (VPSB). It was discovered by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) in April 2016 with the drilling of Jitang-1. First oil of the facility is expected to be in Q4 of 2019.
